CNES #9

Fly to moon and beyond
Pioneering new frontiers, one step at a time
Long-duration space travels, such as the journey to Mars requiring astronauts to endure a six-month voyage through the radiation-filled void of space, and extended missions aboard space stations designed to serve as sustainable habitats, research laboratories, and potential gateways for deep space exploration, represent humanity's most challenging yet promising frontiers.

CHALLENGE FROM
FROM SPACE
We've identified multiple intricate problems below, accompanied by potential starting points for solutions. Are you interested in developing solutions for any of these challenges?
• Isolation and Confinement
• Psychological stress and other mental health issues: Providing astronauts with access to virtual reality experiences, regular communication with loved ones, relaxation and leisure activities.
• Logistical Challenges
• Ensuring a steady supply of water and food : closed-loop life support systems, such as the Environmental Control and Life Support System on the ISS, recycling resources (water, air, … ). Growing food using hydroponics or other methods.
• Reliable Technology and Equipment
• Durability and Repair: Using robust, modular designs easy to repair or replace, 3D printing for manufacturing parts in space, and autonomous or semi-autonomous robots for repairs. Ensuring that all systems work seamlessly together is no small feat.
