Latvia
The Latvian winner of the Act In Space hackathon is Team Crispy; they were working on the challenge "Airbus05 - ""fighting for climate change"" app for monitoring forest health".
Problem: CO2 emission quotas are currently traded by companies and governments, and then in the future, this market will expand to include private forest owners. There are no solutions for potential buyers to easily identify and address these private forest owners.
Solution: The idea is to create an online platform where information about already assessed forests and their owners so that quota buyers can make direct transactions. Both satellite data and public data on forest owners would be used to implement the solution. Both parties would benefit, as the buyers of quotas could find business partners, while the sellers of quotas could make a profit.
Act In Space is a 24hr non-stop hackathon format created by French National Space Agency (CNES) and the European Space Agency (ESA) that runs worldwide every 2 years.
Each participating country organizes a national 24-hour hackathon whose winner will participate in the international final.
